My first experience on GSoC 2021 with OpenMRS

Last week, Google announced the list of accepted students for Google Summer of Code 2021. And I was lucky enough to see my name on that list. I had applied for the program by submitting a proposal for the project “Improving Functionalities of DHIS Connector Module” in OpenMRS. So I was selected to GSoC 2021 to work on that project.
The coding period of the program is about to start on 7th of June. Until then we have the “Community Bonding Period” which is to be used for getting familiar with the organisation. Also we can organise meetings and discussions with the project mentors. Basically, we need to use this period to get ready for the program.
So first I had a meeting with the mentor of my project to discuss the objectives of my project and how I’m going to work on my project. In the meeting some suggestions were made by the mentor and also I was able to clear the doubts i had about the project.
Then the next thing i wanted to do was creating a set of data for the further requirements of the project. I had to create the required data in both OpenMRS instance and DHIS2 instance. For that, I learned about the OpenMRS reporting module, and finally i was able to create a Period Indicator report with indicators and dimensions. Then i created a dataset in DHIS2 demo server and downloaded a copy for future usage. Also I went through the Readme file of DHIS Connector module and sent a pull request to update it with new details. And I spent time doing experimental things in DHIS Connector Module.
I’ll share my updates with you in my future medium stories. You can read my previous post on OpenMRS by clicking here.
